Saw a great Florida band at the Suncoast Blues Society Birthday Bash on June 2. 2012. Billy Seward and his band play that sweet soulful rhythm and blues in the old Stax style. Lots of soul and lots of emotion with Bill and his great 6 piece band here. Great to hear a band with a horn section!
Billy has done some traveling in his time and been all around the country during his musically formative years. He lives in South Florida now and his band works mostly in that area. In fact, this gig was a pretty special one for both him and The Suncoast Blues Society. He doesn’t get up this way much. He did play Aces in Bradenton about 6 months back and that’s where the blues society caught wind of him I guess.
Anyway, it’s a great band with a great sound. Check out these two videos to see what I mean.
The first one is R & B favorite Drownin On Dry Land done by Roy Buchanan and Tab Benoit and written by famous Stax drummer Al Jackson. Not sure who else did the song. If anyone knows please comment below.
The second video is I Really Love You and that might be a Seward original. Please comment if you know otherwise.
